"Tai chi-Paracas"

a series of 90 paintings

acrylic, watercolor on paper

This series was inspired by the "Paracas Textile", a pre-Columbian weaving held in the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Each painting responds to one of the 90 icons that surround the perimeter of the textile. Silhouettes expressing my modern interests in tai chi, drumming and other activities are overlaid on top of pre-columbian priests, shamans, warriors and mythical characters shown in the original tapestry.

A selection of the works are on view at the Palmer Gallery, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY, from January 18 - February 15, 2024. There will be an opening reception on Thurs. January 25 from 5 - 6:30 pm. The full series will be exhibited in Lima, Peru, June, 2024 at the Ministry of Culture (former Museo de la Nación).
